 <p>It was agreed that the institution that is now RMIT University would undergo yet another name change in March 1960. The Royal Melbourne Technical College became the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. It was decided that the word "institute" was more appropriate than "university" for the title as it indicated the presence of higher education in addition to the trade and industrial streams offered. </p>
